Travelling as a family of three means a mixture of laughter, learning, and lasting memories - and some frustration! This April, we’re gearing up for an exciting adventure in Edinburgh, and we’re thrilled to share every moment through reels, blog posts and many, many pictures! But that’s just the beginning! In October, our journey will take us to Walt Disney World in Florida—a special place to us and one we've not been to in over 10 years. We have so many adventures ahead and can’t wait to tell you all about them.
Traveling with our almost 12-year-old son, who has ADHD and autism, brings both challenges and rich rewards. It teaches us valuable lessons in patience and understanding (you need bucket loads of both). Our aim with this blog is to provide encouragement and insights for other families who share our journey.
Our Love for Family Trips
Family day trips are always special, whether we visit renowned tourist spots or discover hidden treasures (case in point - The Winking Prawn, Salcombe. More on that at a later point in time!). As members of English Heritage, we enjoy entry to numerous historical sites across the UK. This adds an exciting educational element to our trips.
Among our favourite locations are Dartmouth in Devon and Perranporth in Cornwall. In Dartmouth, we love walking along the Boat Float and enjoying the beautiful views. Perranporth is perfect for long walks on the beach, where our son can freely explore the rock pools. Each visit reveals something new, making our travels even more enjoyable.
Preparing for Our Edinburgh Adventure
April is nearly here, and we are in full swing preparing for Edinburgh. This city, known for its stunning architecture and rich history, offers adventure around every corner.
While we plan to visit famous landmarks like Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile, we're also keen to uncover local spots that capture the city's true spirit. By sharing our experiences in videos and blog posts, we hope to inspire other families to embark on their own adventures.
Traveling with our son requires a flexible approach. We’ve learned that certain environments can be overwhelming. To make our trip enjoyable, we’ll choose activities that allow for breaks and adapt to our family’s pace.
Exploring the Scottish Highlands
One of the most exhilarating parts of our UK travels is exploring the Scottish Highlands. These breath-taking landscapes provide a peaceful escape from city life. The awe-inspiring views create unforgettable moments as we create lasting memories.

Anticipation for Walt Disney World
Following our trip to Edinburgh, we’ll set our sights on the enchanting world of Disney in October. The excitement of Walt Disney World has been building, especially since our son has dreamed about this trip for so long. And especially since the Grey Stuff graveyard cupcakes are calling our name!
Planning is key. We intend to balance popular attractions with periods of downtime to avoid overwhelming situations. Given that Disney is known for its vibrant, sensory-rich environments, we will incorporate short breaks throughout the day. For instance, we’ll plan quiet moments in shaded areas or visit less crowded attractions during peak times to help our son recharge.
During our visit, we aim to share useful tips for other families who may deal with similar challenges. For every sensory-rich experience, there are effective strategies that can enhance the journey.
Celebrating Our Favourite Destinations
Over the years, we’ve explored many cities. Some have left a lasting impact on our hearts:
Dartmouth, Devon: With its scenic harbour views and lively streets, it never fails to enchant.
Perranporth, Cornwall: The beautiful beach and cliffs offer endless adventures and relaxation.
Edinburgh: Its deep-rooted history and striking architecture are stunning.
The Scottish Highlands: The sheer beauty of its landscapes continually amazes us.
Los Angeles and Anaheim: From the star-studded streets of Hollywood to the wonders of Disneyland, these cities are full of excitement.
Florida: Renowned for its theme parks and sunshine, it remains a family favourite.
Each of these places is a treasure trove of memories, filled with moments of joy and exploration together.
Supporting Families on Similar Journeys
Through our blog, we want to create a supportive community. Traveling with a child who has unique needs can sometimes feel isolating. However, many families share this experience and understand the challenges that come with it.
Our goal is to provide practical tips for making travel enjoyable for families like ours. We’ll share strategies to manage stress and highlight destinations that prioritize inclusivity. We believe travel can be accessible for everyone, regardless of their circumstances.
As we explore the world, we invite you to join us in sharing experiences and insights. Together, we can inspire families to embark on their adventures, no matter the obstacles they face.
By sharing our stories, we hope to motivate and assist other families navigating similar challenges. Travel is for everyone, and adventure awaits. We encourage you to follow along on this journey, and may you find inspiration to create your own family adventures.
Let's celebrate the joy of travel, explore new destinations, and cherish moments that turn life into a beautiful adventure!
